this project explores the remaining visible signs of the former german democratic republic (DDR;GDR) from monuments, abandoned places, public art and various forms of architecture, all of which give a piece of the greater puzzle which made up the former socialist state. images are made with film that expired in the same year as the DDR (1990) to show the slow disintegration natural to the passing of more than 30 years.
photos have been made in numerous locations throughout east germany, including (east) berlin, dresden, halle neustadt, eisenhuttenstadt, and more. as best as possible, they show the values of this society (the most advanced and successful soviet satellite, which ironically was the first domino to trigger the eventual collapse of the iron curtain)
the project will be completed after all the remaining expired film has been shot.
